KTM’s 1290 Super Adventure is more powerful, and Honda’s Africa-Twin is lighter. Nonetheless, according to a BMW press release in January last year, its global Motorrad Division sold over Few weeks ago i was in same doubt.. Took a good look at both V4S and 1290 S. After few talks with dealers the KTM threw me off with only 2 year warranty (and looks), so it was battle between V4S and 1250 GSA. They didnt have V4S on the spot so i had to wait for a month for her and BMW had it at a dealer plus a 5 year warranty.
Maybe the KTM has historical­ly been too aggressive and too off-road focused…? That’s changed for 2021 – with the introducti­on of the new 1290 Super Adventure S. It's more road-focused than before, with road-going tyres, a sportier chassis, a revised engine, tweaked semi-active WP suspension and some new radar-assisted cruise control.
Offroad mode vs Rally mode. Riding the 2021 1290 Super Adv. R and I'm trying to improve my skills. When the bike is in Offroad mode, the MTC/traction control allows more traction slip compared with street. In Rally mode the MTC can be adjusted in 9 "steps". But the BMW R 1250 GS is the most recognisable of adventure motorcycles — with some passionate competition from the latest Ducati Multistrada V4 and the KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. For many years, BMW kept the displacement the same at 1170 cc with the 1200 generations of R 1200 motorcycles.
Had an SA-S, traded on a factory lowered 1250GS. I gave the KTM a good try before I traded it for the BMW. I like them both but BMW GS models had more options with the lowered bike and fit me better.
